Joy Amidst the Darkness; ACERO’s Christmas 2014 Campaign in Iraq
2014 was a year of unprecedented turmoil and hardship for Assyrian and other Christian minority communities of Iraq.
Thanks to generous supporters like you and our institutional project partners ACERO has been at the forefront of the response on a number of fronts. We have distributed aid and implemented relief programs during 2014 in Iraq, Syria, Jordan, Lebanon, Iran and Greece with these projects totaling about $1 million USD in distributed funds.
A Christmas celebration was organised by St George’s Church of the Assyrian Church of the East for the Assyrian community of Diana and Hawdiyaan, Erbil on 23 December 2014. The event, held at a conference hall in Soran featured a concert of religious hymns and Christmas celebrations. The parish priest of St George’s Church in Diana, The Rev’d Fr Yatron Younan expressed his thanks to the parents who had brought their children to the concert and to ACERO for its ongoing financial assistance. In a letter to ACERO, The Rev’d Fr Yatron notes that the event “sowed joy in the hearts of the children”. Christmas gifts were distributed to all children in attendance.
