ACERO has welcomed five families displaced from Syria to Northern Iraq. The families, originally inhabitants of Tell-Baz in Al-Hasakah Governorate, Syria fled their homes following recent conflict in the Assyrian villages along the Khabur River.

With ACERO’s assistance, housing has been arranged for them in Kori Gavana (in Barwar) and Ayn’ Sifne (in Shekhan – east of Alqosh). Each family has been provided with food assistance including necessary staple food items, mattresses, blankets, pillows and 2 cartons of new clothing as well as financial aid. They will continue to receive assistance through regular ACERO aid campaigns into the future.

Preemptively, ACERO has also made preparations to accommodate as many as 40 families in Kavi Balavi should the number of arrivals from Syria increase in the weeks ahead.
