Between 5 – 19 April 2015, ACERO provided humanitarian aid to 150 Assyrian refugee families in Athens, Greece.
This aid program was made possible through the cooperation of ACERO’s collaborator, The Rev’d Fr Shamaiel Tamras of the United Kingdom who ministers to the St Mary’s Mission of the Assyrian Church of the East in Athens, Greece on a regular basis.
Over the last 4 decades, Greece has been a transit destination for Assyrians fleeing the Middle East en route to humanitarian resettlement in Europe, Australia and the U.S. It is also home to a permanent Assyrian community.
ACERO last conducted a humanitarian aid distribution in Greece in December 2014. Due to the enhanced need of the community in Greece, ACERO has increased the volume of humanitarian aid distributed and plans to implement more regular campaigns into the future.
