On 12 June 2014, ACERO released an ‘Urgent Bulletin’ launching its ‘Mosul Appeal’. This Appeal responds to the ongoing turmoil engulfing Mosul, and the surrounding areas of Nineveh Province, Iraq. This situation has resulted in another mass exodus of Christians.

Through the support and rapid action of our local chapter members and project partners ACERO has begun to assist those in immediate need, including Assyrians, Chaldeans, Syriac Orthodox and Catholic and Arabs.

ACERO’s Response

ACERO’s chapter members in Dohuk have commenced receiving internally displaced people from Mosul. Within only the initial days of the commencement of disturbances in Mosul, ACERO has provided housing to 20 individuals including women and children with disabilities in the ACERO Dohuk Housing Complex. These individuals are receiving ongoing humanitarian aid such as food, bedding and basic medications.

The Reverend Cor-bishop Yosuif B. Khaboo of the Assyrian Church of the East in Telkaif Northern Iraq has received 100 individuals internally displaced from Mosul. Of the 100 who have presented to the church, 69 individuals are Christians (including Assyrians, Chaldean Catholics, Syrian Catholics and Orthodox) and 31 individuals from the Arab community.

Through ACERO’s rapid financial assistance and the work of our chapter members and project partners, the following has been organised:

–       Provision of food and basic medical supplies;

–       Allocation of crisis accommodation in church facilities;

–       Provision of bedding and humanitarian items;

–       Organisation of generators for electricity; and,

–       Transportation of displaced families and children to colleges and schools in safer areas within Telkaif, Arbil and Dohuk.
