The Faris Al-Khory School in Qamishli, Syria is an educational institution run by the Assyrian Church of the East and educates approximately 300 young children. It is under the patronage of His Grace Mar Afram Athneil, Bishop of Syria. The school is fully registered with the relevant authorities and has a comprehensive curriculum. In addition to standard subjects stipulated in the curriculum, children also receive education in bible studies and the Assyrian language.
The Assyrian Church of the East Relief Organization (ACERO) with the help of donors and supporters was able to undertake a major renovation of the school building, transforming it from its small, eroded state into a modern two-building educational facility. As a result the school has been able to increase its student cohort. The project, dubbed ‘the dream of thousands of Assyrians in Qamishli, Syria’, was realised on Saturday 4 April 2009 when His Grace the Bishop of Syria, accompanied by various dignitaries and the main donors declared the school open.
