In July 2012, ACERO launched an international campaign to provide urgent financial aid to the Assyrian community of Krasnodar, Russia who were affected by major flooding. According to reports published at the time, flooding in the Krasnodar region of Russia left 171 people dead with more than 25,000 people having lost part or all of their belongings.
The flooding had a particularly direct impact on the town of Krymsk where more than 200 Assyrians reside. As a result of the flooding 5 Assyrians, including two children lost their lives. More than 140 Assyrian houses were either partially or completely destroyed. Through coordination with Rev’d Fr Patrous Polous, parish priest of the Assyrian Church of the East in Krasnodar, ACERO was able to provide direct financial aid to 130 Assyrian families.
